Linking to a Website From an eBay Item Listing
There can be great marketing power in linking to your own Website from an eBay item listing, but you have to get it right...
Why would you want to do it?
As we learned in I Sold It On eBay, selling your items on the world's biggest Internet Auction can be a great way to promote your own business Website. But if you want to avoid getting your listings withdrawn you must adhere to the rules set by eBay. This doesn't mean that you can't successfully promote your site on eBay, just that you have to be smart about it.
The Smart Way
The eBay policy states that you may have "One link to a page that further describes the item being sold in that listing". You can read further into what "further describes" means at http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/listing-links-describe.html
Therefore this means that a link to an information page about your product should be ok. For example; you might have a page on your Website that describes the benefits or proper use of your product in more detail than is practical in an eBay listing. But be careful that you are not just repeating what is already in the item listing! Remember that the purpose of the link is to provide information that "further describes the item".
You can include an active link to your email address (hint: autoresponder!) or to further photos of your products (an image gallery on your site perhaps?).
Full details about eBay's policy on linking from item listings can be found at http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/listing-links.html
Finally, for a belt and braces approach and to be doubly sure that you understand eBay policies is to make use of the eBay Discussion Boards at http://pages.ebay.co.uk/community/chat/index.html - There is always somebody available to answer any questions you might have.
I hope this helps to clarify any issues you might have about linking to a Website from an eBay item listing. Good luck and happy eBay money making!
