Set The Right Starting Price And Save Money

Never set your auction starting price for an item at £1, £5, £15, £30 or £100. Why not? Have a look at the table below detailing the current pricing structure for listing an item on eBay and the answer will appear obvious.

Starting Price Listing Fee
£0.01 - £0.99£0.15
£1.00 - £4.99£0.20
£5.00 - £14.99£0.35
£15.00 - £29.99£0.75
£30.00 - £99.99£1.50
£100 - and up£2.00

Now you can see that setting your starting price at 99p (just a penny below the pound threshold) will immediately save you 5p on the cost of listing your item!

If you start your item at £4.99 instead of £5.00 you are saving 15p, and if you start an item at £14.99 instead of £15.00 you save 40p. This carries on to the point where listing an item at £99.99 instead of £100 (remember it’s still only a penny less) will save you 50p. But the best saving under the current pricing structure is by listing an item at £29.99 instead of £30.00 which saves an incredible 75p!

Pennies? Of course, but remember the old saying; “look after the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves”. Not only are you saving money on listings, but you are also using the psychological advantage of making your prices look more attractive to buyers. It has been proved beyond any doubt that this approach works, and you can see the evidence in any retail outlet anywhere.
